Iranian ‘Servant’ wins US award

Short animation ‘The Servant’ directed by Iranian filmmaker Farnoush Abedi has won an award at the 2017 edition of the Silver Scream Fest in Texas.

The Iranian production grabbed the best animation award of the festival which is dedicated to horror and science-fiction films.

The animated piece tells the tale of a giant cockroach who gets tired of his servitude to a man; so it disrupts the rules of the game. The man, however, attempts to preserve the current situation but soon realizes that the game has no rules.

‘The Servant’ previously won the Best Animation award at the 33rd Tehran International Short Film Festival held on 8-14 November 2016 in Tehran.

The Iranian animation has also won an award at the 14th London Independent Film Festival in the UK.

Launched in 2016, Silver Scream Fest is an opportunity to screen graphic novel as well as films and animation. It has focused on comic book and film industries which become increasingly intertwined.

By opening the festival up to comic book artists and writers, the event is to dip into a much broader creative pool and offer exclusive publishing contracts.

The second edition of the Silver Scream Fest was held on May 26-28, 2017, in Dallas, the US state of Texas.
